What God
Has Accomplished
Life Change Project
Living results from the Life Change Project, which Alissa established
in the US, are listed below. For more details on the Life Change
Project.
Distribution of School Supplies to more than 700 children
As a result of a fund raiser done by Alissa’s former school
district in America, she was able to deliver school supplies
to two of the private Ugandan schools where Alissa had taught
during her first trip to Uganda in the summer of 2007. In these
two schools, she gave school supplies to over 600 children.
This opportunity was a tremendous blessing for the Ugandan children,
their school staff members, and for me. She was also able to
purchase school supplies for 110 orphans from the village where
she will be living. It filled her heart with great joy to see
children being given an opportunity to be educated.
Headmistress Margaret said that many of the students in her
school are orphans; therefore, they are unable to pay for school
supplies. She was extremely grateful for the generosity and
kindness of the American students.
Headmaster Godfrey said that some of his students had been sent
home the week before Alissa came because they did not have Mathematical
Sets, which include a compass, ruler, pencil, eraser, etc. Alissa
was able to purchase these sets and distribute them because
of the amount of money that was raised by the American students.
Thank You Letters
Dear Children,
I greet you and thank you for loving us more as your fellow
pupils in Uganda. Thank you for the gifts you gave to our children
(the books, pens, pencils, and sets). Thank you so much. We
also love you so much through our mediator Madam Alissa, who
has left your school. We pray that we may continue communicating,
but who knows what God has planned for us. Your fellow pupils
said that if it was a walkable distance, they would have come
to say thank you. Allow me to wish you the best in all of your
academics with good passes to the next class. Yours Faithfully,
Mwase Godfrey (Headmaster)
Hello Friends,
We have written this letter as a P-6 class to thank you for
the things you have given us. May God bless you. From Your Friends
in Uganda at Namubiru Primary School
Dear Bryce,
How are you over there? On my side, I am fine. How is America?
How are your studies? Are they going well? I have written this
letter to just thank you for your love, which you have shown
to us. Thank you for sending money which helped us and your
nice teacher Aunt Alissa, who has given us the school supplies.
Uganda is fine, but it is now hot. We have two seasons which
are dry and wet. In wet season Ugandan’s plant their crops and
in dry, they harvest their crops. I stay at CMU and it is such
a good place. Thank you.
From Orodria Janepher
I Love You All!
Dear Nathan,
My name is Elijah. I am in P-6. I have interest in singing.
Our country is cool, so I welcome you to come and share with
us. Thank you for the school supplies. Yours,
Elijah
Increase of Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity in the minds
and hearts of American Students
“I really changed my mind about Africa when you first came back
from Africa. You really have helped the African children very
much.” Written by a Third Grade Student
“I think it’s awesome that a teacher would go to Africa! I also
think it is so cool that you teach and care for many kids over
there. I wish you luck!” Written by a Seventh Grade Student
Distribution of Worm Medication to approximately 250
children
Many of the families are unable to afford worm medication; therefore,
many of the children have worms growing inside of them. It was
wonderful to be able to remove their discomfort and increase
their physical health by giving them this medication.
Various Opportunities to Take “Jesus” and His Love to the Ugandan
Community
“We are so thankful that you have come. You have brought Jesus
to our home.”
This elderly couple was among the group of individuals that
Alissa visited and prayed for while she spent time in Kyenjojo,
Uganda. Many of the elderly people in this area are left seeking
to raise a number of orphaned children, who have had one or
both parents die of AIDS. The grandparents are very lonely and
have many needs, but most importantly they need to know that
Jesus loves them and truly cares about them.
“I know Jesus has heard my cry because I stayed with a muzungu
(white person) last night.”
This little boy is one of the many orphans who have had both
of their parents die of AIDS. He needed to know that Jesus cared
about him and his situation. Alissa thanks God she was able
to be a messenger of Christ’s love for this special child.
Salvation of Souls
As you bring Jesus and His love to others, they are drawn to
become followers of Christ.
“I know Jesus loves me because you sat in the dirt beside me.”
This woman had never heard of Jesus before Alissa was moved
with compassion to sit down beside her. After she heard the
story of Jesus and his love, she asked him to come into her
heart. She now feels more peace and joy in her life.
Children’s Day
The highlight of Alissa’s time in Uganda was our "Children's
Day." She worked with a local pastor and other workers
of God’s Care Ministries to organize a day to honor the children.
We had over 400 children, including 110 orphans. We fed the
children lunch, administered medication and educational supplies,
preached the gospel, and played games. We also invited some
of the government officials to attend, which helped lay the
foundation for future endeavors.
Piggery Project
Alissa’s heart had been deeply moved by the condition of the
Ugandan schools where she had the privilege of teaching for
about a month and a half in 2007. Alissa was determined to do
something for this school so she gave the headmaster Mwase Godfrey
a small donation. He used the money to purchase a pig to develop
a piggery project, and he even named it after Alissa! This Piggery
Project is now bringing in revenue for the school.
